Alec Baldwin will be holding no punches as he plays the lead role in his new movie, Rust, as it was announced Wednesday.
“When I first heard that my friend Robin Williams was acting in this film and would be directed by our friend John Magaro, I immediately thought it would be an opportunity to work with Robin and partner with him in a truly challenging artistic endeavor,” Baldwin said in a statement. “What Robin didn’t know was that he was stepping into the shoes of one of my favorite people of all time, and actor, James Dean. I cannot imagine doing the film without James Dean’s unmistakable performance and it would not be the same without Robin. I am honored to be following in his footsteps and so thankful to everyone who has made this film possible.”
While the movie does indeed boast a heavyweight cast (directed by Magaro, produced by Jason Blum, and starring Pitt’s film manager Jason Michael Berman), the complexity of its story is something that police are having trouble distilling. In fact, they tell the New York Times they still don’t know all the details surrounding the making of the movie.
“It’s a little bit of a puzzle,” a source told the Times. “It’s not like a standard screenplay, it’s a lot of improv.”
According to their official description of the film, Rust is a new biopic of James Dean, who was a young actor when he died in 1955. “The story offers viewers the opportunity to understand the history and motivations of a man who became famous at a young age while trying to find himself,” the description explains.
Now that filming is over, the project is said to be on hold as it awaits a fall premiere date. Check out the cast photo released by IMDB below.
