Biden’s plan to fix Obamacare looks a lot like Obama’s

What’s in and what’s out: His priorities:

On foreign policy: Biden backs President Trump’s decision to withdraw from Syria and his decision to provide more support to the Kurds in their fight against ISIS. He’s also urging Trump to withdraw from Afghanistan. “We must recognize that the Afghan conflict is clearly not going to be resolved any time soon,” he wrote in the op-ed.

He’s also urging Trump to withdraw from Afghanistan. “We must recognize that the Afghan conflict is clearly not going to be resolved any time soon,” he wrote in the op-ed. On Obamacare: Biden called for the federal government to increase contributions to Medicaid insurance for low-income working people under the Affordable Care Act. He’d also make tax credits for health care more generous and update the law to limit prescription drug costs. He would not, however, repeal and replace the entire ACA. He would fund high-risk pools and, in the future, put in “some form of reinsurance” to increase Medicare payments to high-risk individuals, according to a campaign aide.

On tariffs: Biden warns that trade wars are detrimental to economic growth and national security, but he sees merit in the administration’s tough stance on China.

Backers say Biden’s plan holds more details and focus on practical solutions that can help people. “It brings people together and brings real tangible solutions to the challenges that families face,” said Robey Dillon, communications director for the Biden campaign.

Pro-Biden Democrats in the Beltway plan to roll out a broader vision for health care in the coming weeks. Biden’s campaign is simply hoping that it’s among the first to do so.
