A Northwest Airlines plane has been diverted to Detroit after a flight attendant was assaulted by a passenger, the airline said Tuesday.
Northwest flight 692, with 242 passengers and nine crew members aboard, was about three hours into its flight Monday when it diverted to Detroit Metropolitan Airport, according to Flight Aware, a flight tracking website.
A woman was removed from the plane for physically assaulting a flight attendant and a gate agent at Detroit Metro Airport, the airline said in a statement. The unidentified woman had earlier engaged in what Northwest calls “an argument, and she also removed a personal item from the overhead storage area,” according to the airline.
The woman, whom the airline did not identify, also claimed an “electronic device” was preventing her from fully using her phone during the flight, the statement added.
The woman was escorted from the plane.
Northwest Flight 692 landed safely in Detroit around 4:30 p.m. local time. Passengers were taken to the terminal while police investigated, according to Flight Aware.
