Toronto hairdresser arrested, charged in connection with child sex abuse

A Toronto hairdresser who was first arrested and charged in October with child sex abuse involving a 3-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl was then arrested Tuesday and faces additional charges, according to Toronto police.

Paulo Janco Araujo, 47, allegedly enticed a 3-year-old child to engage in sexual acts with him by a number of online chats, conversations and video clips, police said in a news release on Tuesday. The teen girl allegedly consented to engage in “oral and anal oral sex, masturbation,” Toronto police stated in the news release.

Toronto police emphasized that, “a co-conspirator in this case offered the offender money to facilitate his offending.”

The arrests were made Oct. 30 by Toronto police’s Child Exploitation Internet Unit (CEIU) and the Homicide Squad’s Internet Child Exploitation Unit (ICE), the news release said. They followed a months-long investigation.

Araujo was arrested Tuesday on a charge of sexual interference and making child pornography, Toronto police stated in the news release. “Those charges relate to the victim in this case,” police said. “He has also been arrested and charged with 12 counts of producing child pornography.”

Araujo, who was released on $500,000 bail and had his passport seized, appeared in court on Tuesday and has been barred from contacting the child victims, Toronto police stated in the news release. Araujo also cannot use the internet, phones, video games, GPS systems, firearms or possess any weapons, the release stated. He is banned from having unsupervised access to children between the ages of 10 and 17 years, the release stated.

Police said Araujo’s office at Fashion Cuts Hair Styling Workshop on Parkdale Avenue was the location of his alleged crimes.
